To a Springfield College Freshman: MUST KNOW ADVICE

The number one thing you must know the first day of college writing is, how to write a 20-page paper. Hope that got you going. College writing is not something to be worried about. You come in thinking you’re going to have to write so many papers and have so many assignments only to find out that’s not the case. This class helps you develop as a writer with assignments made on personal preference. The professors take into consideration what the students are interested in writing about. This class not only helps you develop as a writer but it also helps with your other classes as well. I know you medical people agree with me. The research papers you’ll be writing and articles you’ll have to find are going to be a lot harder when you don’t know what you’re doing, but with college writing, you learn how to do all that. College writing is the basis of your college experience. You learn how to properly cite sources, make an annotated bibliography and how to use the correct format. These are the fundamentals of writing any paper. The process of writing papers in college writing is not like it is in high school. The professors assign certain things to prepare you and get your thoughts organized in your paper little by little so when you go to write the paper, you know exactly what to do. Your first semester is the time to get used to your teachers, and making sure you stay on top of your assignments. Going from high school and being a senior, having senioritis to being a freshman in college is a big adjustment school wise. Making sure you do not procrastinate and do your work on time is critical. This will definitely be a challenge for some people because I know it was for me. Taking the time to plan out your assignments, doing the papers and worksheets to prepare you for the papers will help and make it easier. If you’re worried about the workload, don’t be. It’s nothing you haven’t done before. Enjoy writing these papers because they are interesting. See, I’m taking my own advice.
